Ukraine Student protests on new School fees

Kharkiv students protest against introduction of pad services at colleges and universities. Kharkiv, Ukraine.
Though for foreigners the school fees is cheap but more than 200 female Ukrainian university students protested against newly imposed school fees in the eastern city Kharkiv, with some driving home their point by taking off their clothes, the Interfax news agency stated on Tuesday.
The demonstrators gathered in the city's central square to shout and chant slogans in front of the provincial governor's office - some walking 500 metres topless in 8 degree Celsius temperatures.
A protest spokeswoman said government plans to hike the cost of university education would leave a low-income student unable to continue studies "without selling the clothes off her back."
The majority of the marchers, however, remained warmly dressed, eyewitnesses said.
The women were protesting the recent imposition by Ukraine's central government of fees for test-taking, applications and course reviews, which had previously been free for university students.

Work in Ukraine

Before the Orange Revolution, Kafkaesque bureaucracy meant that most foreign workers in Ukraine had jobs with foreign multinationals or joint-venture corporations, or were government workers. Volunteers for the US Peace Corps and Soros Foundation have a long history with the country, as do religious missionaries.
However, in the past few years, adventurous entrepreneurs and English teachers have been seeking work independently in Ukraine. It’s not always an easy process, as to get a work permit you have to show that a Ukrainian could not do the job you’re being hired for. However, a little persistence will usually pay off.

Business hours

Official weekday working hours are 9am to 5pm or 10am to 6pm. Some banks close for the day at 4.30pm. Bigger shops, especially in Kyiv, tend to stay open later, until 8pm or 9pm (Sunday closing is increasingly rare).
Most restaurants around the country are open from at least noon to 11pm, and times are not listed for individual eateries in this book unless they significantly diverge from these (where no times are listed for a restaurant, you can be sure they are open for at least lunch and dinner). Some cafeteria-style eateries and cafés open earlier, at 8am or 9am, and close at 6pm or 7pm.
Many places, especially government-run establishments, still close for lunch (1pm to 2pm or 2pm to 3pm). However, this is becoming slightly less common, especially in bigger cities.
Museum hours are typically from 9am to 5pm or 6pm, but they vary, and there are always one or two days a week when museums are closed. Occasionally, they close for cleaning sometime during the last week of each month, but this is very rare these days.

Ukrainian educational system - University level

Higher education is either state funded or private. It is common practice that university candidates are not required to pass an entrance examination if they are willing to pay for their education. Students that study at state expense receive a standard scholarship if their average marks at the end-of-term exams and differentiated test is at least 4; this rule may be different in some universities. In the case of all grades being the highest (5), the scholarship is increased by 25%. For most students the level of government subsidy is not sufficient to cover their basic living expenses. Most universities provide subsidized housing for out-of-city students. Also, it is common for libraries to supply required books for all registered students. There are two degrees conferred by Ukrainian universities: the Bachelor's Degree (4 years) and the Master's Degree (5–6th year). These degrees are introduced in accordance with Bologna process, in which Ukraine is taking part. Historically, Specialist's Degree (usually 5 years) is still also granted; it was the only degree awarded by universities in the Soviet times.
